It appears it's not Trump strangling the FBI investigation per se, it's one of his minions, White House Counsel Don McGahn who has had oversight over the Kavanaugh nomination from the beginning. Trump may not necessarily know what is happening.

A sampling of some of the headlines from various outlets...

Vice: The White House is doing all it can to stop the FBI looking into Kavanaugh
WSJ: White House Directs FBI to Interview First Two Kavanaugh Accusers, But Not the Third
NY Mag: Report: White House Is Controlling Who FBI Interviews in Kavanaugh Investigation
WaPo: Another Trump coverup? Former FBI agents question limits on probe of Kavanaugh
CNN: Key GOP senators make clear to White House that they want 'real' investigation on Kavanaugh
TPM: Outrage Grows As Omissions From Kavanaugh Probe Become Apparent
BI: Kavanaugh's Yale classmates who dispute his statements on drinking and sexual misconduct want to talk to the FBI but are reportedly being ignored

Diane Feinstein has issued a request for a copy of the instructions issued by the White House Counsel to the FBI outlining the scope of the investigation, but she has not been given a copy. Trump has claimed on Twitter and in person that the White House isn't limiting the investigation. But FBI sources keep telling the media that Don McGahn is still tightly controlling the investigation regardless of Trump's public claims:
"I hate him passionately", he's "a demonic force" - Tucker Carlson, in private, on Donald Trump
"Every line of serious work that I have written since 1936 has been written, directly or indirectly, against totalitarianism and for democratic socialism" - George Orwell

The length of time is fine. It's the specific lists of who the FBI is, and isn't, allowed to interview, and what topics they are, and aren't allowed to ask about, that are causing issues. White House Counsel Don McGahn has apparently dictated a list of exactly four people the FBI is allowed to interview for this probe, and has ruled that relevant topics like Kavanaugh's drinking behavior at the time or the meaning of terms in Kavanaugh's yearbook be off limits to the probe. The FBI is allowed to interview those 4 people only, on the specific topic of the alleged sexual assault incident only. And those 4 people do not include one of the 3 main accusers (Julie Swetnick) either.

So, despite multiple classmates of Kavanaugh publicly testifying in the media that Kavanaugh perjured himself with regard to his accounts of his drinking habits, and the meaning of words in his yearbook, and them wanting to tell the FBI about how he became violent when drunk, the FBI is being banned from talking to those people or asking any of those questions.

It was amened by four people. Please, tell me how I have idolized Trump or Kavanaugh.

Oh - what is a guy to do when he's always wrong?

No - I'm not going to take any of this seriously right now. It's just too off the wall crazy. Now yes, the last few posts I've been off the wall crazy too. But I'm just joining in the fun after all! It is so amazing to me how much you expect of me and how little you expect of yourselves. • Source: White House authorizes FBI to expand Kavanaugh investigation: report

The White House has reportedly permitted the FBI to interview anyone deemed appropriate in its investigation into sexual misconduct allegations against Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh.

The New York Times reported on Monday that the White House gave authorization to expand the investigation from an initial limited list of witnesses, provided that the review is completed by the end of the week.

The FBI has already spoken with the four individuals it had been given permission to speak to, the newspaper reported.

Also, Swetnick is backpedaling. Now she's saying that she never actually saw Kavanaugh do anything illegal, she just thinks she might have seen him near people that she thought were maybe doing something illegal. She also claims that she contacted the police after being drugged and gang raped at a party... which begs the question: Where's the police report? A story like this would have made national news, but it seems not even the local news outlets caught wind of it.

                            • I find it interesting that no one has ask Feinstein the obvious question:

"You had the letter since July. You sat on it for 6 weeks and mentioned it to no one. The hearings were about to end. Since you clearly took no action beforehand, and you deny leaking the letter, it seems your intention was to allow the confirmation to continue despite knowing of the allegations. Since you have said that you believe Dr. Ford, why do you want to put someone you believe is guilty of sexual assault on the Supreme Court?"

I don't see another possible conclusion for her actions.

                              1 She had the letter.
                              2 She took no action.
                              3 She didn't leak it.
                              4 She believes Dr. Ford.
5 She knew that Kavanaugh would pass the committee and be confirmed along party lines.

If all these are true, then:
6 She believed the letter that she had that stated Kavanaugh was guilty of sexual assault (from 1 and 4).
7 She took no action against Kavanaugh when she believed he was guilty of assault (from 2 and 6).
8 She didn't leak it and took no other action when she knew he would be confirmed (from 2, 3, and 5).
9 She didn't leak it and took no other action knowing that a man she believed guilty of sexual assault would be confirmed to the Supreme Court (from 8 and 9).

                              Therefore,
She must be willing to allow someone guilty of sexual assault on the Supreme Court (implied by 9).

Am I missing something in my logic?

                              • I think it most likely that Feinstein knew the accusation wasn't credible and held off on releasing the letter until it could do the most political damage.
