People always say, Why would a woman subject herself to such shame and ridicule by saying she was raped if it didn't happen. Well this isn't the 1950's. Nobody shames rape victims today. They believe them, and have empathy for them and don't think the rape was her fault. So there is no real social rejection to making a false accusation today. Quite the contrary. They get support and sympathy. Which some women seek out by making false accusations.

That really isn't True Sparko. IF that where true Ford would not have been subjected to the hostility we saw from several of you on this thread, nor would she have been publicly shamed by the President of the US.

However, it is BETTER today than in the 1950's. On that much we can agree. We can also probably agree it is not as bad as many only the left would portray it to be.

But it is not as you say above. And this thread is one very obvious counter example.

Where it stands now, Kavanaugh could easily sue her for defamation and win, assuming he could get a fair jury. But he won't do it because in this climate they would just accuse him of beating her up because he is an evil white man.

Would that he would! He may or may not win this particular case, we'd have to actually hear from all the witnesses who were ignored by the White House run investigation to know that, but once again, win or lose, his true character, (unfitness for SC Judge) would be further revealed and that, after all, is what this Congressional hearing was all about.

The point was not to assert he WAS guilty, but to point out that his adult reputation does not protect him from suspicion because his college activities are consistent with the sort of person that is more likely to have found themselves lacking self control and acting out of character. Do you understand the difference between the two? I ask because the point you are making here would imply you do not.

All accounts? First it would be fair to say that getting to 'By all accounts' is likely not possible. But secondarily, it was not an unbiased investigation, nor was it given sufficient time to be truly complete. You are right to say those against Kavanaugh would drag it out as long as possible. But that does not nullify the fact the investigation as it was did not have sufficient time to be as 'complete' or 'thorough' as should be, or even as it might have been had it been done correctly and before the public circus.

And it is that attitude that makes Sparko's original assessment false.

In general and as relates to sexual assault, 'obviously false accusations' is not a practical term. There have been some accusations that appeared to be completely absurd that turned out to be true (I'm thinking here of a very large kiddie porn ring busted a few years back) . That is why they are investigated.
