You are an idiot Star, socialism by definition is totalitarian. It must control just about everything to work.

      LOL, no.

Democratic socialism is the opposite to totalitarianism in every sense.

I think you're seriously confusing the ideal with what actually results.

Feel free to try to dig up some examples of Democratic Socialist countries that turned out totalitarian...

Oh wait, you're full of it as usual.

Democratic socialism is just the rabble majority dominating and controlling the minority. High taxation, controlling the means of production and the distribution of goods is totalitarian in nature - and has to be to work.

But the countries you would point to are not socialist, they are capitalist with generous welfare benefits. Now Venezuela would be your true socialist country and is totalitarian.

East Germany which called itself the German Democratic Republic and Section 1, Article 1 of their constitution declared "The German Democratic Republic is a socialist state of workers and peasants."

Somali Democratic Republic where Section 1, Article 1 of their constitution declared "The Somali Democratic Republic is a socialist state led by the working class and is an integral part of the Arab and African entities" According to Wikipedia:

Part of Barre's time in power was characterized by oppressive dictatorial rule, including persecution, jailing and torture of political opponents and dissidents. The United Nations Development Programme stated that "the 21-year regime of Siyad Barre had one of the worst human rights records in Africa."

You're getting confused Rogue. Democratic Socialism is a specific political orientation in and of itself. It is not equivalent to communists who happen to put the word "democracy" in their country's title. (For some reason that I don't really understand, terrible dictatorships seem to love putting the word 'democracy' in their country's titles - North Korea is officially "the Democratic People's Republic of Korea")

Literally none of your examples are Democratic Socialist countries. Again, "Democratic Socialism" is a specific political philosophy in and of itself, and is commonly formulated and presented in direct opposition to historical communism. It has little to nothing in common with authoritarian communist countries who stuck the word "democracy" in their names. And it is not simply the sum of communism plus a bit of democracy.

You're ignoring what they say in their constitutions.

I'm sorry you find words and terms confusing. I get that the term "Democratic Socialist" is a bit confusing as it's slightly different in a nuanced way to "Social Democrat" and very very different to "Socialist" plus "(alleged) democracy" which it's the conscious opposite of in many ways.

The word "Progressive" seems to be becoming more used to replace the confusingly-termed "Democratic Socialist". In the EU parliament the bloc of Democratic Socialists is known as the "Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats".

                                From your link:

by replacing private ownership with social ownership of the means of production.

Now tell me which countries fit this and are working?
