  • An Inspiring Speech

I am catching up on my "Madam Secretary." In Season 4, Episode 12, the president develops a personality change and then they create a situation in which he makes remarkably Trump-like comments (e.g., remember Fire and Fury?). After more evidence that his personality is significantly altered, with significant risk for country at large, the cabinet invokes the 25th, specifically Section 4 - which removes the president from office. But they give him the option to invoke Section 3 instead, and be medically evaluated. He takes the option and they discover a tumor on his frontal lobe that is the culprit. He goes before the nation and gives a remarkable speech. Although this is only a TV show, I found the speech to have some amazing elements that were pretty inspiring.

Offered here for those who likewise find it inspiring.

    It's a fake speech.

Nice not-so-subtle dig at Trump, too. You're shading pretty far left with that one.

Of course it's "fake." It's a television series! But even those can be inspiring when well written.

I didn't think it was subtle at all. The series has a very ethical, forceful character as president, which makes it difficult for them to do the "ripped from the headlines" type episodes that have been done by prior series associated with politics. I thought it was mildly amusing that they had to give the president in the series a brain tumor to justify his outrageous actions, setting the stage for the closing speech.

As for "left," my feelings about Mr. Trump have nothing to do with left/right policies and have everything to do with his character. I believe the man is temperamentally and morally unsuited to be president.

It reminds me of this "fake" speech...which I also found powerful.

So in order to take a dig at Trump, they had to find a way to alter the President's character and make him "insane" by giving him a brain tumor so they could take the swipe at Trump. Got it.

This should be in the amphitheater.

If it belongs in a different forum, I leave that to the mods.

As for your sentence - yeah - that's pretty much it. Kind of ironic...

"Madam Secretary", the show that was supposed to propel Hillary into the White House by depicting her as smart, honest, hardworking, and physically attractive, a concept so absurd that it's borderline satire.

The show's executive producer says it was inspired by Hillary Clinton and Benghazi (I guess they thought it was her biggest accomplishment as Secretary of State or something).

I'd say it was more along the lines of "This Benghazi thing is really making Hillary look bad, let's go and do something to make her look good".

is that what it was supposed to be? I tried watching it once and it was so boring I couldn't get through an entire episode. Basically a prime time soap opera.

Interesting. I have never considered this show having anything to do with Ms. Clinton. Other than blond hair and being female, the character has little or nothing in common with Ms. Clinton, IMO.

Edited to add: Given the comment, I went digging. Apparently the executive producer was inspired to create the series by the Benghazi hearings. I had no clue. I don't find anywhere, however, that the character was based on Clinton. Instead, the producer says they were captured by the idea of what life as a female Secretary of State would be like and decided to create a series around that theme.

Probably because the main character is portrayed as likable
