  • Trade and the Economy

I think we all know that the "trade war" is mostly a battle of words, at least for now. But it is having impacts domestically. This is typical of stories from various sources. Although there is a tendency for most of the stories to be arising from center, left-of-center, and far-left sources, it is even showing up on the right.

It seems to make sense to me that a trade war, if it actually starts, could have significant negative impact on the economy. Couple with the fed adjusting rates and undoing quantitative easing, the potential for severe braking exists. Given that the tax cut is dependent on significant growth to pay for itself...it raises some questions, especially in an election year.

    Thoughts?

It's not going to be much of "trade war" when Prrsident Trump is holding all the cards.

Of COURSE Trump says he has all the cards...

...but then again...Trump lies at the drop of a hat...especially in negotiations (where he considers lying a perfectly acceptable tactic).

It will be interesting to see how this plays out and what happens to the U.S. Economy as a consequence.

Of course a left-wing nutter like you is going to continue promoting the "Trump always lies" fake news meme.

Get back to me when you have a real argument.

I do not recall using the "always" superlative. Superlatives are Trump's domain, not mine.

"Trump lies at the drop of a hat" is a superlative, you post-modern hypocrite.

Umm... no. A superlative, as the word is defined, means "of the highest quality or degree." A superlative in the English language is the extreme in the set "good, better, best" or "high, higher, highest." The claim "I am the most truthful person you'll ever meet" is a superlative.

That someone "lies at the drop of a hat," means they do it a lot. It does not rise to the class of "superlative." The statement "Trump always lies" (which is how you apparently interpreted my statement, based on your post) is a superlative - because of the word "always." I did not say that because I have heard Trump say true things on many occasions. Indeed, given that his average is 3-6 outright lies per day (depending on who's list you use), it follows that most of what Trump says publicly is probably true, because I have to assume someone in his position says more than a handful of things each day.

You guys certainly like to engage in ad homs...

It also means "excessive or exaggerated," which is what you clearly meant when you said that "I do not recall using the 'always' superlative. Superlatives are Trump's domain, not mine." Anybody with half a brain (and I'll generously include you in that category, at least for now) knows that you weren't complimenting Trump for engaging in discourse "of the highest quality or degree." Furthermore, claiming that Trump lies "at the drop of the hat" is an obvious exaggeration/superlative.

Post-modernists like you might be easily fooled by such transparent and dishonest wordplay, but don't for a minute think that I am so easily taken in.

Ironically it seems you are the one who is trying to fool the readers since you are the one who put words in Carpe's mouth which he never said. He never did say that Trump always lies and yet you try to make it seem as if he did. So if instead of "dishonest wordplay" and "Post-modernists like you" you started talking about what was actually said, you would find that you have fooled yourself.

Because there's a meaingful difference between saying

                            "This person always lies"

                            and

"This person lies at the drop of a hat".

                            No, really.

In your case, I'm not sure if you're a post-modernist, or if you're just not particularly bright.

Since doing something "at the drop of a hat" does not imply that you always do it there is a meaningful difference.

I note the personal attack. Are you lacking good arguments again?
