Even with talk of billionaire candidates running like Zuckerberg, Oprah etc, no non-politician is yet being rated at 5% by those people willing to put their money where their mouth is. 100% of the political commentators I follow have responded "OMG no!" to a suggestion of Oprah running.

Unlike him, she is actually a billionaire, didn't inherit her money, doesn't have a history of money laundering for Russian mobsters, has some business competence, can finish expressing a coherent thought without getting sidetracked, can speak at above a 4th grade level, can read without difficulty, doesn't have dementia, doesn't do crazy twitter rants, doesn't take everything personally, etc.

But I judge politicians primarily on their policies, and she's never really had any (apart from Iraq-war-mongering, and recently #MeTooing), so that completely disqualifies her from leadership.

One takeaway from the Fire and Fury book is that having someone as president who's new to politics and disinterested in politics and lacks any kind of political agenda is a problem, because the president is often required to make decisions (e.g. whether to increase/decrease deployments in Afghanistan) and sometimes time-sensitive ones (e.g. what to do in response to NK launching a missile over Japan, or in response to Syria using chemical weapons).

But Oprah could put together a committee to make cozies for all of the nuclear missiles.

There have been worse jobs programs in the history of the world (cough, the US military industrial complex, cough). As far as white elephants go, I imagine cozies come in less expensive than a Great Wall of Mexico.

People used to say of politicians "If he does X (or fails to do Y), he will be forced to resign". But the reality is that nobody is forced to resign; if you are not fired (or defeated at the ballot box), then you get to stay until you are shamed into resigning, and if you have no shame, the system breaks down.

Technically, he wasn't forced to resign, as in nobody gave him an ultimatum. He chose to resign, but it was only to avoid the embarrassment of being removed from office by Congress.

I'm not a fan of celebrities being el3cted to high office without political experience. Reagan cut his teeth in California. Trump was (and is) a rookie. Oprah would be the same, just on the liberal side. She would not be as big an embarrassment as Trump, but she has as big an ego (IMO*) and as little political experience. Let's not make THAT mistake again.

*Have you ever noticed her businesses tend ot be named after her, and she is the only one ever (AFAIK) to be on the cover of her magazine? Every edition I see in the stores, there she is - her own best fan!

I have to admit to a bit of a sense of fatigue. It doesn't really matter who the Democrats or Republicans run. On this site, the Democrat will be a pariah for a huge list of reasons, and the Republican will be the best thing since sliced bread, for a huge list of reasons. Visit a left-leaning forum and the opposite will be true.

As a nation, we've appear to have lost the ability to critically judge our leaders and candidates. It's all about the color of the jersey.

I don't know for sure, but I suspect that Oprah is not an "entrepreneur" in the sense that Trump is. I think she is a celebrity with a staff that she commands to "entrepreneur" for her. Like "I think it would be great to expand the Oprah brand. We should do soup!" and then she sends someone out to get it done and take care of everything. I don't think she is hand's on.
