The decision to switch to "Happy Holidays" makes sense as the country diversifies and becomes proportionately less Christian. "Merry Christmas" is uniquely Christian. "Happy Holidays" is inclusive of all faiths. So a business/school/government dealing with many customers is very likely to make this move. It is not "anti-Christmas" or "anti-Christian" and it's not an "attack on Christmas." It's "pro-diversity" and respectful of the wide array of religions now present in significant numbers in our country.

But when something has always been one way, and it begins to change, many people react to the change. When your faith has been the center of everything for a long time, and respect begins to be given to other faiths, it feels like a "loss." It is, in a sense. It's is a loss of privilege in the face of a changing nation.

Trump rode the wave of that animosity all the way into the White House. He continues to try to ride it by hammering on themes he knows people who feel they are "losing" things are anxious/angry about.
Let's see, during "the Holidays", do we exchange Christmas presents, or Holiday presents? Do we keep them under a Christmas tree, or a Holiday tree?

Yeah, I know, that'll probably change, too, but "I'm dreaming of a White Christmas" will still be.....

    Merry Christmas!

Most Christians exchange Christmas presents (I was surprised to learn that Jehovah's Witnesses don't celebrate Christmas at all). Jews have a different set of traditions and do not exchange Christmas presents. Many African Americans celebrate Kwanzaa. In December, Muslims celebrate Eid Al-Fitr and Eid Al-Adha.

So, from the narrow perspective of Christianity, everyone should say "Merry Christmas." From the narrow perspective of Judaism, everyone should say "Happy Hanukkah." From the narrow perspective of African Americans, everyone should say, "Joyous Kwanzaa." From the narrow perspective of Islam, everyone should say, "Enjoy Eid Al-Fitr." Those of us who want to wish anyone and everyone a joyous season, when we don't know the faith of our audience or it might contain multiple faiths, say "Happy Holidays." It's not about offending anyone - it's about including everyone in our well wishes.

Trump, speaking as the highest government official, and looking to placate his base (again), just wished the entire military, "Merry Christmas." Unfortunately, in so doing, he pleased his entire base (again) and excluded all serving Jews, Muslims, and non-Christian African Americans, to name a few.

Personally, I'm all for everything Trump does to further exclude groups outside his base. Each such step simply adds another nail to his political coffin, IMO. Someday, we will once again have a president who is inclusive and respectful of all faiths.

Maybe we can accuse the PC crowd of cultural appropriation.

Actually, a significant number in our area. I cannot speak for the rest of the country. Worldwide the numbers I'm finding range from 12-30 million, so it's not anywhere near as pervasive as other, more mainstream, holidays.

Not sure why you think it is fake? Because it is only 50 years old? Every celebration started somewhere....

Give examples of evangelicals blaming Jews for the war on Christmas.

how much empathy does it require to admit to yourself that Jews celebrate Hanukkah and not Christmas, and so say "Happy Holidays"? But apparently It Must Be Merry Christmas,
I see your knowledge of more recent history is as poor as your Knowledge of Ancient history. Evangelicals have always stood up for the rights of Jews here to put up their Menorahs up during Hanukkah. Give examples of Evangelicals wanting to force others to say Merry Christmas and not just wanting the right to say it. btw you know the 10 commandments that the Evangelicals fight to keep up in courtrooms That is a Jewish religious document.

and Trump's going to save the country from the Jews and their non-observance of Christmas. Or something.
We Evangelicals know Trump's Daughter married a Jew.

How dare any other countries in the world be allowed to have opinions, or have a forum to express their opinions in!

I think that the UN should be moved to Europe and the UN Security Council disbanded leaving only the General Assembly, because I think the US has shown itself to be unacceptably corrupt actor as far as the UN is concerned and it keeps threatening UN bureaucrats/programs and sabotaging/vetoing UN votes. As the US has become one of the worst actors on the world stage (along with Saudi Arabia, Russia, and Israel), and increasingly needs to be condemned by the UN, it is also inappropriate that it host the UN.

Do you view foreign aid as a bribe? Is it given to help people and countries in need? Or is it given to endear them to the US? Are they no longer allowed to have independent moral views on world affairs after receiving it - must they bow to your US view?

Part of my contempt for US foreign policy is that on the one hand you guys often try to portray yourselves as a white knight who is spreading democracy and human rights and acting altruistically for the good of others, while in practice the US seems to do almost nothing of the sort and has a tendency to run the absolute worst kind of selfish and self-serving foreign policy programs that involve inciting coups to overthrow democratic governments and replace them with dictators etc. And all the many bombs you drop don't smother people in love and democracy doesn't explode out of them.
