I used to have this thing where I would work on a long post, only to find out I had been logged out or something else had happened, and it wouldn't save my post. I started composing posts in notepad, particularly if I had to gather up some other quotes, then copy/paste it into a post.

And Flake's big speech that the MSM are all swooning over was a joke. He originally ran as a staunch conservative Republican and had a 100% lifetime Club for Growth record in the House of Representatives but when he became a Senator he voted like a moderate liberal Democrat^[1] so it is no surprise that polling showed he had at best a slim chance of winning in the primaries much less the general election^[2]. Knowing his career was all but over he has decided to throw a fit and hope it distracted from the fact he was toast.

Ah, out of 17 candidates McCain came in second to GWB in the 2000 republican primary and then he went on to win the same in 2008. So you may have considered him a rino for a long time, though I doubt you actually did, but even so, republicans in general obviously disagreed with you. Collins is more of a moderate, yes, but she is still conservative, just not conservative enough for the wack jobs.

According to The Hill Flake only has a 25% favorability rating among Arizona Republicans (Independents give him a 20% favorability rating) and is trailing his primary opponent by 27 points (58 to 31). That is a political death sentence for any incumbent. So he is pretending to quit rather than face a humiliating defeat. He'll probably show up on either CNN or MSNBC as a supposed conservative commentator to provide "balance" to their half a dozen liberal guests.
