Imagine this scenario. Trump cops a plea and spends his golden years in Club Fed. Maybe even goes on parole and finishes his miserable life quietly grifting his remaining supporters. Biden retires to an assisted living home, and picks up a nice hobby. We are given two fresh candidates, maybe Vivek on the right and Whitmer on the left. I don't know, there are actually hundreds of partisans who would be better than Trump and Biden, right now.

I almost won't blame the candidates for the abysmal debate last night. I blame the oligarchy that controls what candidates are presented to us in the first place. Is this really the best of the best for America? One sickly geriatric knocking on deaths door? Versus one criminally insane geriatric who's reporting for sentencing in a couple of weeks? I swear, the moment we coagulated into a Two Party system, the American Democracy experiment had an expiration date.

You wouldn't find me shedding tears for a Trump resignation, but it's simply not realistic.

Trump has no reason to resign, and every reason to stay. After last night, he has a much clearer path to the WH which he likely sees as his best bet to defeat the charges against him. Plus, he's attracted to the power.

Trump also humiliated himself in the debate MM. All he gave was a barrage of lies, plus the answer was always "migrants are bad, I forgot the actual question".

The problem is that Trump's voters are apparently too stupid to mind the barrage of lies or the lack of policies.

I agree that the two party system is problematic. America is currently stuck with it due to using plurality voting. A few states are starting to fix things by moving to Ranked Choice Voting for congressional elections. Though what they actually need for properly getting rid of the two party system is a different version of Ranked Choice Voting than they are using, where each district has 2-3 seats called Proportional Ranked Choice Voting aka single transferable vote.
