Majority of Americans want Confederate statues to remain...

JimL supports removing confederate statues for the same reason why he supports forcing grandma to attend gay weddings or lose her bakery: he enjoys humiliating his enemies even after they have been defeated. If he had been born in the south he'd have almost certainly been a vicious slave owner who tortured his slaves for the smallest slight against him. In fact, given that he's a trust fund baby I'm curious about his family history. It was recently revealed that Anderson Cooper's ancestors owned some of Michelle Obama's."As for my people, children are their oppressors, and women rule over them. O my people, they which lead thee cause thee to err, and destroy the way of thy paths." Isaiah 3:12
There is no such thing as innocence, only degrees of guilt.

Well, the Republican platform in 1860 was saying that, although the Atlantic slave trade was illegal (and from 1820 on was punished with the death penalty), enough wasn't being done because it was still going on, and they wanted stronger steps taken against it.
By the way, anyone curious about the Republican platform that Lincoln was elected on can find it here:

It's so brief compared to modern day platforms. The Democratic platform (as well as the other Democratic platform, the party was in a bit of a schism right then) is even shorter!Last edited by Terraceth; 08-25-2017, 07:24 PM.

Maybe so but after its complete abolition its place was taken by the Jim Crow Laws and these laws continued to be enforced until 1965. It is the Jim Crow mindset we see reflected in the White Supremacist KKK movement. It is attempting to retain the symbols of white dominance, of which the Robert E Lee statue is but one of many.

They are just monuments to a historic event in the city/state/country.

Bust of Joseph Stalin in Bedford, Virginia. Responsible for the deaths of between 5 and 20 million

Statues of Lenin in Seattle and New York City. Personally ordered the killing of local groups of "class enemy" hostages numbering into several thousand.

Statue of Che Guevara in New York City next to Central Park. Yet another communist mass murderer and terrorist.
In Che's case the left may not care that he was a killer since it was all in the name of the glorious communist revolution, but he also committed the one unforgivable sin -- he was a racist. In his autobiography, The Motorcycle Diaries he wrote
"The black is indolent and a dreamer; spending his meager wage on frivolity or drink; the European has a tradition of work and saving, which has pursued him as far as this corner of America and drives him to advance himself, even independently of his own individual aspirations."
In the same book he proclaimed that "Mexicans are a band of illiterate Indians."

But you did actually accidentally back into a point here. Few people notice statues, or more accurately, who the statue is of, these days except to maybe use them as a landmark ("let's meet near that statue near the north entrance to the park" sort of thing) until knuckleheads desperately seeking to be offended decided to start whining.
