Freedom of speech was not intended to allow hate speech that incites violence towards groups on the basis of attributes such as race, religion, ethnic origin or sexual orientation. And this is what we get in spades from the KKK White Supremacists and anti-Semites that largely make up the Alt-Right.

Freedom of speech was intended to allow for the peaceful resolution of conflicting ideas by allowing people to fight it out through debate rather than violence. In other words, you don't get to decide its scope. The moment you do, you set yourself up as dictator and give these people permission to kill you. Of course you and the rest of the left don't really believe in freedom of speech, nor have even the slightest understanding of why it exists. Don't worry though, you will learn the hard way when the next world war comes around.
