  • Hamas Apologists Rally To Save Fire Alarm Expert Jamaal Bowman's Campaign

(OK, so I had a little fun with the heading)

Bowman is trailing his pro-Israel challenger ahead of next month's primary

    May 6, 2024

Progressive groups that routinely downplay Hamas's terrorism are seeking to give Rep. Jamaal Bowman's (D., N.Y.) embattled primary campaign a final push across the finish line, as polls show him trailing his pro-Israel primary challenger.

Anti-Israel groups, including RootsAction, the Working Families Party, and IfNotNow, joined forces with Justice Democrats—the far-left group aligned with the "Squad"—to help raise funds for Bowman.

"Our progressive leaders are fighting for us against corporate interests who seek to keep power in the hands of the wealthy few. That's why they're all-in on @JamaalBowmanNY and @CoriBush: because the voices of a former school principal & nurse are megaphones for working families," Justice Democrats wrote in a post on Wednesday.

"Stay tuned for more events, fundraisers, and ways to plug in this summer—to #ProtectTheSquad and protect our democracy nationwide. Chip in now to @CoriBush and @JamaalBowmanNY," the group added.

RootsAction, a progressive group representing the "multiracial working class," blamed Israel for Hamas's Oct. 7 attack in a statement one day following the massacre, citing "cruel Israeli occupation and expansionism" as the "root" of the violence. The group added that it expects similar cycles of terror to repeat unless the "apartheid" ends.

"The root of today's violence is the oppression and abuses suffered daily by Palestinian people as a whole under decades of cruel Israeli occupation and expansionism. Leading human rights groups … have concluded that Israel's occupation policies amount to a form of apartheid," the group wrote in a post. "Until Israel's military occupation is ended, these cycles of terror and war and trauma will repeat."

IfNotNow, an anti-Israel group working to "end U.S. support for Israel's apartheid system," wrote in a 2020 post that Hamas's being "directly and fully responsible for the crisis in Gaza" is a "myth." The group admitted that Hamas "plays a role" but later contended that Israel perpetuates the crisis with a "blockade" that is "hindering the growth of Gaza's economy, infrastructure, and institutions."

It will be interesting to see how much help these "pro-Palestinian" groups are to those who back them.

This is what a lot of the false teachers do with Scripture - rather than quote it directly, they'll "put it in their own words".

One is trying to rectify their previous stance on "Well they violated the rules by silently praying, they should've been arrested" with trying to paint these rule violators as victims of a free speech crackdown and hasn't been so successful.

I got blasted for my initial assessment, but I think it has aged quite well.

I like the "PSPO isn't a law..." But, of course, there IS a law that says violating a PSPO is a criminal offense...so, walks like a duck, talks like a duck, looks like a duck.

Though, to his credit eider has been silent wrt these protests, so, for the moment, he hasn't stepped into the same doo doo as someone else in trying to justify why one person deserved to be arrested and the other to be left alone....

It's not an either/or; in almost all the cases under complaint, I do both. And the post you're responding to is a demonstration of why that's often not only valid but an essential way to drive at meaning.

The complaint is not being made in good faith, as the complainers routinely themselves characterize the statements of others in their own terms (and usually much less charitably). But, even if the complaint were in good faith, it'd be wrong-headed, at odds with the entire history of literary interaction.

Yeah those supporting Hamas sicken me also with their actual physical violence towards those just shouting down the brainwashed pro terrorism they were spouting as well, as the violence toward folks who would not let them desecrate the symbol of the freedom they have to spout off their hatred.

                  • Princeton students stage hunger strike to demand 'complete amnesty from all criminal and disciplinary charges' for Gaza Camp protesters

They demanded that the school "grant complete amnesty from all criminal and disciplinary charges for the participants of the peaceful protest. Reverse all campus bans and evictions of students."

                    original_photo_2024-05-06_15.42.05.jpeg

Students at Princeton University announced that they are going on a "hunger strike for Palestine." Reading from her phone while standing in front of a tree on which the protest sign was hung, one of the keffiyeh-clad overall-wearing students asked others to join her. The students' demands, however, have far less to do with the war in Israel, which is the excuse for their protest, and far more to do with their own protest.

"I'm inviting any people of conscience in the Princeton community, students, faculty, alumni, to participate with the striking students in a solidarity fast. In just the last few hours, we've had commitments from at least six people from Princeton Theological Seminary to participate in this solidarity fast, with more coming in by the hour," she said.

"At the Seminary," she said, reading a statement from her phone, "we've also been calling our school to disclose and divest for the last several years and want to join together with the students from the University in their hunger strike. Almost every faith tradition in the world engages in the spiritual practice of fasting. The three major Abrahamic religions, Judaism, Islam and Christianity, are no exception to this."

"Jesus himself said," she continued, giving a version of Matthew 17:21, "'of some evils in the world, they require both prayer and fasting,' and we are here to live into that word."

Only a few days before, a group of Princeton students stood before the same sign and tree, also draped in keffiyehs, which have become the fashion statement of the Gaza camp protesters. There were two women among the group of seven students, one of whom wore traditional Islamic dress and the other who wore a facemask. Each student ran a portion of their prepared statement from their phones.

After expressing their concern for the people of Gaza, which was the only word the students delivered with an affected accent, they listed their demands, which were entirely localized to themselves and their protest.

Samonize Paraphrase: "WAaaaannnnhhhhh, we're gonna pretend we're standing up for Palestine while we're really just holding our breaths til we turn blue to make you not punish us for our own stupidity"

Fasting is not meant as a protest (at least not in Christianity).

I saw another news report where the students were also demanding amnesty for their crimes, but these students were demanding food too. They seemed to be smarter than this crew in that regard.

An interesting misquote of a verse that doesn't exist in the NA28, though a foot-note does allow that some texts include the verse.

Well I guess it will work, since they will defeat themselves if they fast and the police/university just lets them.

One of their spokespeople said it once, right? And everyone informed about the situation, which apparently doesn't include you, knows they can't do it again and again because they're not capable of doing so. Your choice to interpret empty words as a serious promise, ignore everything else about the situation, and make all decisions based on that, seems weird.
