I think it is just us tossing a hornets nest into the mix to keep them fighting. If we left things alone, eventually ISIS or Iran would end up controlling the whole region, and bring peace through fear. Then they would build up militarily and threaten the rest of the world, like North Korea is doing, but without as much self-control. ISIS especially has claimed that their mission is to bring about the Islamic version of Armageddon. They are radical enough to use nukes if they had them without any qualms or fear of reprisals. Their first target would be Israel. Then the USA and Europe. The fact that they would end up a smoking field of radioactive glass in the end won't deter them one bit.

It could also serve as a not so subtle message for the fat little gargoyle over in North Korea who has been saber rattling quite a bit lately.

Whatever the case I hope this isn't the first step in an escalation of our involvement over there. That it is akin to Reagan's Operation El Dorado Canyon strike of Libya back in 86.

I think Trump is building the wall around the wrong place. I think he should build the wall around the middle east and lock them all in till they either come to their senses or kill themselves off. No one in or out.

So he killed 100K using conventional means but recently got really disgusting and killed a couple of dozen with chemicals and it was the deaths of those couple of dozen people that suddenly got our interest? I think the conclusion: You're killing people the wrong way appears to be spot on. I'd be interested in how this could be viewed in any other way.

Although I in many ways agree with you on this- the point wasn't that he was killing people, but that he was (allegedly) killing people in an illegal/banned manner. At least that's the impression I get from numberous other world leaders who for the most part seem to agree with this course of action.
