    Obama's Amnesty for Illegals

    I've heard rumblings that Obama will, with a few strokes of his infamous pen, pardon millions of illegals before departing office.

    This article seems to lay that to rest. Maybe.

    The first to state his case seems right until another comes and cross-examines him.

    A few thoughts come to mind:

    Can the president pardon non-citizens? What are the limits of the presidential pardon in that respect?

    Even if he could theoretically excuse them from punishment - such as jail or fines - for breaking federal law, he can't grant them citizenship, so they could still be deported since deportation isn't a punishment.

        I think he should give a full pardon for Manning and Snowden, now before Trump really takes office.

          Just curious why the word "really" is there.

              Sure, but Trump doesn't "take office" until he's inaugurated. I just wondered why the "really takes office" as opposed to "takes office".

              Apparently, it was just a superfluous word without any actual meaning, which is OK - I just wondered (so I asked) if it indicated something significant.

                Yeah I just meant he wasn't president yet, but just president elect. I mean he's not going to run the US from Trump Tower is he?
