That must explain the recent cyber attacks on the USA. It was all so well encrypted.

Not even close to the same thing. you made the comment that because a laptop was stolen the network was compromised. The government (and any large company) sets up laptops and phones with the idea that they could be stolen or lost since they are used out in public. They are all encrypted and most of the really sensitive data is not even on the local machine. and any data on it can be remotely erased at any time.

Just because your son might be a computer expert doesn't make you one. wow.

And various news outlets have referred to cyber security comments addressing the risk.

I never claimed to be a computer expert.

You really must learn to read what is written not what you think has been written.

The goal of news outlets is to sell. They will overdramatize anything to make a buck. And contrary to your beliefs, reporters are not computer experts either.

I work in the IT dept of a large law firm and our lawyers have laptops and phones with very sensitive info on it. We plan for them losing them or getting stolen. The government is even more paranoid than we are. A stolen laptop is not a problem for national security. Especially by some "hillbilly" as you called them.

That depends on the journalist of course.

My emphasis. It? Your grammar is atrocious.

I don't think I initially referenced national security. Did I?

Oh dear did that reference to hillbillies hit home?

Your response, swimming with ad homs instead of substance, tells us all we need to know. You do this when you know you are wrong.

Here is a useful tip for you. Read through your work carefully before you submit it.

Of course we all make typos occasionally but your syntax in that reply to me was quite dreadful given that I assume English is your first language. If it is not, then I withdraw my criticisms.

And where exactly am I wrong?

I have a laptop that has access to my company's network and to my customers' networks. But to use it, a thief would have to know my login information, and then pass the two-step verification process because it calls my cell phone for my secondary password. And then once in on my laptop, all the networks I have access to are again behind further login and password information.

It would be quite difficult to make use of it. It's probably easier to just hack into the networks on the Internet somehow.

You are wrong in ignoring my post to focus on my grammar. It was an obvious deflection. Fail better. Or just admit you know nothing about network security.

Yep. And our devices have 2FA and a fail safe that if you try to log in too many times and fail, the device locks and erases all proprietary info. Government devices are even more secure. That's why everyone was upset with Hillary using a private server, email and phones.

I understood it quite perfectly. Are you using your magical inability to read again?

I proudly identify with hillbillies now. I was born in a big city (next to Los Angeles) and fled the crime and pollution and legalism and socialism and the crowds for "flyover country." And the people and life out here is wonderful. Hillbillies are my family now.

It's hilarious watching HA devolve from her pretentious "scholar" persona once she has been shown to be wrong.

You have yet to show me where I am wrong. I merely called you out for your dreadful prose and as you Americans are wont to observe "Suck it up".

As for my posting style, I can be quite light-hearted when the occasion calls for it.

And of course you would never dream of making ad hominen remarks about another contributor, now would you?
