Great news! Surgery can still be difficult, though. I'll be praying.

My mom had stage 3 breast cancer in the mid 90s, had a mastectomy and chemo and it never came back in the 16 years she lived afterwards.

with the exception of a 5 year treatment plan by a daily pill.

This right here is probably the most important thing that she can do after the op/chemo etc.

There is no gaurentee that the cancer will never return, but it will almost certainly return if you don't do this follow up religiously.

One of th ebiggest mistake my sister-in-law (who died 18 months ago from cancer) made was not doing this followuup properly, and also not making the lifestyle changes (in diet etc.) needed post breast cancer.

Just saw this CP. Praying for you and your wife, believing for a miracle. Remember, God is not contrained by facts and figures. I have seen miraculous healings after all the 'facts' said it was impossible.

The surgery is in two parts -- the first being the most critical. That doctor just advised that her part went extremely well, no problems, everything optimum. All cancer has been removed, lymph nodes clear, etc. The second surgical team is still operating, preparing for subsequent reconstruction. She should be in recovery in about 30 to 45 minutes. Recovery will be about an hour and a half.
