Apologetics 301 Guidelines

If you think this is the area where you tell everyone you are sorry for eating their lunch out of the fridge, it probably isn't the place for you

This forum is open discussion between atheists and all theists to defend and debate their views on religion or non-religion. Please respect that this is a Christian-owned forum and refrain from gratuitous blasphemy. VERY wide leeway is given in range of expression and allowable behavior as compared to other areas of the forum, and moderation is not overly involved unless necessary. Please keep this in mind. Atheists who wish to interact with theists in a way that does not seek to undermine theistic faith may participate in the World Religions Department. Non-debate question and answers and mild and less confrontational discussions can take place in General Theistics.

99.9% sure he isn't the author of the book I had read.

Still, does he have any white in his eyes?

Possible, but the cover was black and white. No blue and green.

While some versions show it with a white cover I would have assumed the name of the author might have "rung" the proverbial bell..

If that was the book, this was the cover (IIRC, everything was centered on the cover)

So I appear to have refreshed your memory. Perhaps it might be wise make a note of the author and title for any future occasion!

”Noteworthy” is a great adjective for the discussion about Mark’s ending. It went from that to Lot’s wife. Respectable progression. We went from that to you impugning rogue’s memory recall. It devolved from there. Meanwhile, tabby and I keeping the peace. It’s just more fun that way,

Only mostly sure that was the book. I'd have to see inside to be sure.

And as noted earlier, he never claims that all of the passages that can be understood idiomatically must therefore be understood as idioms, but rather noting that there are other potential ways to understand them.

I have a pet theory regarding the ending of Mark, but tab doesn't like it.

Perhaps it is too clever by half, but it strikes me that the sudden ending was intentional and designed to spark a particular reaction in the listeners[1]

                          It's the very last line

                          Scripture Verse:

And they said nothing to anyone, for they were afraid

Upon hearing it, I figure it was meant to cause a reaction in those hearing it of something along the lines of "well I'm not afraid -- I'm going to tell everyone!"

                          To encourage spreading the Gospel.

As an aside, obviously in the end they did say something, not just because that is what we read in the other Gospels, but if they never told anyone, we would hardly be reading about it would we?

                          1. readers as well, but far more were having it read aloud to them, presumptively usually in groups.

I always wondered why interpolation would be necessary to get the ball rolling. Interpolation would seem to be taboo, but instead it’s interpreted as giving God a little help in the transmission.

"They left the tomb without saying anything to anyone." I don't see a problem with it: the text restricts the time frame to the time of leaving the tomb. What follows is denouement, though unlikely to have been added by the original author.

My argument is that this ending was exactly what Mark intended. That there is no "lost ending" and the two variant endings are, as nearly universally accepted, later interpolations.

That said, I'm now trying to figure out the likely motive for ending in such a manner.
