Rethinking the parable of the talents?

Here is a sermon making this case. At this point in time, I feel fairly confident that the "traditional" explanation is probably correct. This would still need to account for the background information mentioned in the sermon, but the one thing I would say about that is that we could say nowhere is Jesus actually condoning the economic activity, but rather using it as an illustration.
