You may enjoy Joel B. Green's The Way of the Cross: Following Jesus in the Gospel of Mark (Eugene, OR: Wipf and Stock Publishers, 2009). (I believe it is a reprint edition of an earlier work.)

Thanks, I've read a little bit of his 2-volume commentary on Mark. He does a good job of placing Mark in his Jewish Hellenistic milieu.

John...mainly for the parable of the man born blind and the upper room discourse.
"For I desire mercy, not sacrifice, and acknowledgment of God rather than burnt offerings." Hosea 6:6

            Parable?
The first to state his case seems right until another comes and cross-examines him.

Another late night and rushed post. I mean, of course, the story in John 9.

I selected Matthew largely because I have seen the progression or structure of Matthew as it relates to Jesus' role as a prophet to Judea.

I picked the gospel of John, by reason it was, as I see it, the first gospel tract. It tells plainly how to and who can have eternal life.

Of the Synoptic Gospels, it is between Mark and Luke. Luke for over all order of events. Mark for details and of the last Passover leading up to the crucifixion and resurretion of Christ. I like the disputed long ending attributed to Mark.
. . . the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; . . . -- Romans 1:16 KJV

. . . that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures: . . . -- 1 Corinthians 15:3-4 KJV

Whosoever believeth that Jesus is the Christ is born of God: . . . -- 1 John 5:1 KJV
