What makes an interesting villian?

Daleks manage to be one of the dumbest species but also one of the most fascinating villainous groups in science fiction.

Personally I found them to be pretty two-dimensional although that has changed somewhat in the recent incarnation of the show.

I tend to find Cracked and the like annoying , but that is me.

It has gone downhill quite a bit in the past few years. One of the things that always bugged me about it is that they seem to require a quota for gratuitous vulgarity.

I am more annoyed by the pretentiousness they sometimes fall into.
