I proofread research papers for international publication by non-native speakers, and I'll ask them to explain themselves if certain sentences aren't clear. This week I got a good explanation
THe original sentence was:
"The order of the plateau peaks, which have to be not be fully resolved"
I asked him to explain what he was thinking with the second half of the sentence, his response was
"Oh sorry, I meant to say, 'which not have to be not be fully resolved' "
Luckilyhe also explained it in his native language, so I was able to get what he meant (that they don't need to be fully resolved).--------------------------------------------------------
