[Aside: my father always ate a Lifesaver's peppermint when he went to bed. At some point he started giving the sliver of it left to my mom's dog after the latter earned the right to sleep on their bed (alerted my mother to a rattlesnake in the bedroom one night). My father taught the dog to "take it nice" and he would literally take it from my father's lips without touching him. It was kinda cool to watch as Pierre would oh so gently reach forward and take it.]
