  • [Technology] Massive upgrade to the US payments system well underway

The US payments system (e.g., credit cards, debit cards, ATMs, online banking and bill pay, online brokerage) is undergoing a huge upgrade that is supposed to be complete by October 15 this year. No, nothing to do with bitcoins and similar digital monies. Behold, Near Field Communication (NFC). An NFC-able smart phone might one day enable you to pay for anything using nothing more than the phone, as well as unlock your car. Fast, convenient, safe. More hack-proof.

Why more secure than before? Tokenization is one reason en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tokenization_(data_security)

Apple Pay appears to have a bust-out start.

You could have asked, why is this not in X forum. Economics is not quite the right place because of all the new technology. Civics, but the government does not really have to be involved.
      Where else?

Technology would make it not a right fit for Nat Sci also...

It's been decided that it's a closer fit to Economics than Nat Sci. Moving to a more appropriate forum
