The Krogers gas station opens at 6 AM as does the mom and pop convenience store gas station (actually now owned by two, maybe three brothers). I was going through at 3:30 AM.

I'm always still in trouble again

And checked your tires. Funny how they always told you that you were half a quart low on oil even if you had your oil changed the day before.

Oh yes, they also handed out trading stamps as well (let the young'uns figure out what those were).

On Andy Griffith one time, there was a "wise guy" who was trying to teach Goober how to check oil in such a manner that the customer can watch, but it will always be a quart low - by making sure your thumb blocked the dip stick from seating in the tube.

And they had penny peanut machines and 10 cent coke machines! Oh, and PISTACHIOS!!!!!

Of the 5 gas stations in the center of town, only one of them is open 24/7.

But the cokes back then only held a swallow or three (12 oz bottles were called King Size)

I pumped gas and washed windows and checked oil from the time I was 12 working summers at my Dad's gas station. Never checked tires, though.

And never told anybody they were a quart low when they weren't!

I love pistachios, but when I can get peanuts in the shell for $1/lb. on sale vs. $9/lb. for pistachios, my wallet says to get peanuts.

Only two in my town stay open all night.

                              • Now in the mid $1.90s.

Sure took a long time to drop from $2 to just over $1.50 around here but it looks like it will only take a couple weeks to go back up over $2.
