                      • $1.58 near my house but they weren't open yet when I went to work early this morning and had to put a few dollars in the tank at a place near where I work ($1.65) before filling up after getting home.

Weren't open? You mean there are still gas stations out there where you can't get gas 24/7/365? Does Goober work there?

I came across one sometime ago that wasn't open. Not sure if that was normal. But a lot of times they close up for maintenance...once we saw all stations belonging to a company shut down due to being taken over and reno'd by another company.

                            • I was going to a Shell station and then one day it had a different name. It turns out the owners wanted to get their gasoline supply from some other company. Also interestingly, there is a gasoline pipeline and distribution center less than a block away from these guys. They could almost get a supply of gasoline without using a tanker truck. Anyhow, how has this myth been created viz. that gasoline is available for less that 2 bucks?

But it was like a blast from the past - I remember, of course, when virtually ALL service stations were "closed" at night. AND, they used to check your oil and clean your windshield, hence... "service"!
