And this week in our recurring segment "US foreign policy once again makes the rest of the international community face-palm"...

The Netherlands has been leading an effort with broad European support, for the UN to investigate war crimes in Yemen. Sounds sensible right? Investigating war crimes and monitoring international conflicts in an impartial way seems like the job of the UN - in fact I'm somewhat surprised it doesn't just happen automatically. And recently, a number of countries have been carrying out bombings in Yemen, particularly Saudi Arabia, who recently infamously bombed a wedding killing 131 people. So it seems like an impartial UN panel doing a bit of oversight might be a really really good idea.

As might have been expected, Saudi Arabia, known for its this-doesn't-apply-to-us attitude towards the idea of human rights, vigorously opposed the European proposal. But the proposal ultimately failed due to lack of US backing. The US representatives did the equivalent of sticking their head in the sand and whistling innocently every time the proposal came up for discussion. And they seem to have busily sabotaged the proposal behind the scenes.

The reason for that? The US provides logistics and targeting information to the Saudi forces operating in Yemen, and is the largest supplier of weapons to Saudi Arabia.

Apparently you're not keeping up with how brutal the Houthis are (though I have not investigated it for myself--but the similar Iran-backed Assad regime in Syria has brutally killed 200,000 of his own people, so I tend to accept anything bad I hear about Shi'as). So you're saying the UN has investigated and condemned the Assad brutality in Syria, but the U. S. is blocking a similar expose of SUNNI atrocities in Yemen?
Yes, I get some "Progressive" newsletters that tell the story your way, but I have noticed that their associations are with long-time Communist-front organizations. Considering how Putin seems bent on recreating the Cold War, I would suspect he now has Russian operatives paying off Communist and Communist-front organizations, just like the "good old days". What say you about whether you're spouting Communist propaganda? (I'm not saying you are, just making you aware of the appearance and asking your honest opinion.)

If you're talking to me, I'd answer the way GK Chesterton did when he submitted an answer to the question posed by The Times, "What is Wrong With the World?":

          I am.

Why would I answer, in such a way? It's rather simple, the biggest threat to world peace is the fact humans are running the show. What people, such as Starlight, end up doing is comparing themselves to those they see and inferior to themselves and what do you know; they end up smelling like a rose. Imagine that. How hard is it not to be genocidal manic or to commit mass murder? Most people don't end up doing those things, so it really isn't that hard to do. Now, how easy is it to follow the example of Christ? That's another story and why I find such survey's as total and complete nonsense and shows the real lack of thought that our population is suffering with. Striving to be better than those people who see as our inferior's isn't too difficult to accomplish. I instead choose to strive to be the best wife, mother, daughter, sister, friend, etc I can be by following examples of my betters vs my inferiors. It isn't that hard not to be a mass murderer (since few people will ever become mass murderers), but it is very hard to be like Christ.

And what will the UN end up doing about this, if they were to find these 'war crimes' actually happened? Write a stern letter of condemning the acts? I'm sorry that you put such blind trust in the UN, but the UN is more worthless than a screen door on a submarine. Unless of course, you can prove that the UN would actually do anything about these 'war crimes' beyond writing a stern letter and condemning it.

The UN has allowed countless war crimes to happen on it's watch. About all the UN seems to be capable of doing is writing stern letters condemning these acts without actually doing much about it. The UN is pretty much a paper tiger that nobody really cares what they say or think.
