You realize that "addressing" something is not the same as effectively refuting it?

And from which party did the Dixiecrats emerge and then rejoin? I'll give you a clue. It wasn't the Republicans. Very, very few would later change party affiliation. They were the very definition of what were known as yellow dog Democrats. It wasn't until the next generation grew up that conservative Southerners began joining the Republican party in any significant numbers basically starting at the end of the 1970s and 1980s.

Dixiecrats were a separate party that did indeed originate in the Democratic party - which had been playing to the 'democrat' South for decades. It wasn't until the break with Southern conservatives that the Democrat party fell to its leftwing - and fairly long after, at that.

Truth is, neither party gets 100% on civil rights. The Republicans let the ball drop shortly after the Civil War - both in their mangled dealings with Reconstruction and their abdication at the end of Reconstruction. Democrats were perfectly happy to let Plessy stand as long as it kept the South strongly supporting them. The CRA wouldn't have happened if BOTH parties hadn't supported it (largely thanks to the legislative finesse of Johnson, ironically enough).

Here are a few surprising facts about how the Civil Rights Act of 1964 became law:

    1. More Republicans voted in favor of the Civil Rights Act than Democrats

Yes, it's certainly not. But that doesn't stop them from using it.

Not to mention I thought "queer" was meant to be a 'bad' word that was very un=pc
It's a joke, of sorts... every time I see the "name", it seems there are more letters added to it.

For whatever reason most of those in one of those groups who heard him say it took offense.
I like it actually. Who could possibly be offended by it? It's sounds like the name of a Japanese anime studio. And everyone loves Japan.
