I'm wondering if Israel won't take back at least part of the Gaza as a buffer zone. They are gonna catch heck regardless so they might as well make military gains.
I do think the international outrage is close to backfiring - Israel is getting kinda used to being on the short end of that stick and they may just decide that since the US has abdicated leadership elsewhere and Europe is about as capable as a dishrag that they can probably get away with quite a bit right now. Looking at the proportions, it seems as though an Israeli civilian is worth somewhere between 10 and 100 Palestinians. That's not how proportionality works.

A few years ago a couple of school yard bullies decided to film the final in a series of attacks on their favourite victim. One filmed it, the other would hit or kick him walk back a bit, then return to make another strike. Repeatedly. (A lawyer counted the number of assault offences, there were nine.) In the end, during the final attack, the victim had enough, hoisted his assailant in the air to shoulder height and threw him to the ground. He landed on his back. All of it was on mobile phone video. Guess who got expelled? And the school's excuse - the lad was consistently involved in fights in the school. The video gave perfect evidence for why he was always getting in fights.
