The Treaty of Ghent, which was signed after the War of 1812, states that neither country can build a barrier within ten feet of the border. So, this is yet another example of Trump violating an international treaty.

In theory, by breaking this treaty, the United States has to forfeit certain US territory which was occupied by the British during the war. Be interesting to see if Canada makes an issue of this barrier and attempts to recover the land from the US.

The federal voting process is very messed up here. The number of candidates are predicated by population. So, for example, PEI, the province with the smallest population has 2 MP's, each of the territories has 1, while Ontario, with the highest population, has 121 MP's. This is very disturbing, and because of the way the system works, often Ontario and Quebec, with the highest number of seats, determine who has won before all the votes across the rest of the country are even completely counted.

There is a disproportionate amount of representation, and although people have been trying to change it for years, the Liberal and NDP parties don't want any change.
