I know he isn't, me and Star have had this conversation before. I just want to keep the horse before the cart.

That is perfectly true. We are social democrats.

Any big changes to the US system should be out of discussion until we recover the economy from the cure we tried for coronavirus. This is not a time for debating 50 year old topics but rather for just getting back to normal. Especially problematic now is the divisions that have occurred. I'm listening to liberals bemoaning the leftist culture that is taking over (and the concern that the Democrat party will cater to these greater extremists).

He's talking about a "mixed economy," something that the US already is, in fact, it's probably more socialist now than it's definitely been in like the last two decades as per its insane debt, yet we've had more sociopolitical conflict in that timeframe than ever before.

And capitalism doesn't work without socialism, either. Go talk to farmers and retirees if you think differently.

Nonsense, we had capitalism without socialism for most of US history.

No, I don't think FDR is regarded as one of the most popular presidents in the US. He certainly was a very influential president but that doesn't make him popular. Also I think a lot of people would argue how successful the New Deal was. It certainly helped alleviate a bad time, much like the coronavirus aid is helping today. Certainly I would not characterize either one as extremely popular. As for the New Deal's success, I've read what really pulled us out of the Great Depression was World War II and all the military spending it required.

It's not so much folks don't know what socialism is, it's that they don't know what capitalism is. We longer have a free market capitalist system in the US. The remnants of capitalism we do have are taxed and regulated to the bone, and thus can barely survive. There definitely is an upper echelon wealthy class, a very small minority, that get bailouts when they fail, either from the government itself or the government through the central bank. Whatever America is -- most likely a neo-feudalism-type system -- it's not free market capitalism.
