I am not able to deal with much so I will make this brief. Ox, the government of China could have and should have done more to stop this. They lied and likely intentionally killed those who tried to speak out for the sake of appearance. Furthermore the US government and Italian government also share a great deal of blame. It's become more evident than ever that the US right, at its core, is all about hatred. Hate for liberals. Hate for gays. Hate for mexicans. Hate for immigrants. Hate for China. They seem to make use of it as a uniting force - they can be all united together in their hate for others.

I agree that such attitudes are not compatible with Christianity. It's really remarkable how many of Trump's supporters who hate so vigorously claim to be Christians.

In hindsight, the key step would have been to shut borders and lock down affected areas faster. However, initially, China brought considerable political pressure to bear against countries that were considering shutting their border with China. In the end, everyone paid for not doing that earlier.

And Trump was out telling everyone it was a hoax, and Senators were saying 'nothing to worry about' while selling off their stocks and telling their donors it was going to be a big issue.

Second, Cuomo was not saying that he denied the virus came from China. He was challenging Trump on his use of "Chinese Virus" or "China Virus" by noting that this virus could have arisen anywhere - it just happened to arise in China.

And for those who rant on about how many viruses arise in China, do the math. The population of China is over 1.386B. The population of the world is over 7.53B. China has over 18.4% of the world's population. They have about 4 times as many people as the U.S. in a geographic area that is roughly the same size as the U.S., ergo higher population density and more opportunity for viruses to arise. That doesn't mean they didn't handle it badly. Clearly, the evidence suggests that they did. But that is the Chinese government, not the Chinese people.

All along I've been making it clear that I don't fault the Chinese people but place the blame for how it was handled squarely at the feet of Xi and his government who didn't just "handle it badly" but rather deliberately handled it badly.

They deliberately concealed what was going on, destroying evidence like lab samples and tests in order to continue hiding it and "disappearing" those in China who spoke out (with some of them now dead). Further, they refused outside assistance and wouldn't share the virus so it could be studied. These weren't mistakes. This was maliciously deliberate. Those have nothing to do with the Chinese people at large or their culture but rather was an attempt to maintain an iron grip of control. It was all about Xi maintaining power and everyone else be damned.

You paint a binary condition when no such condition holds. I think the press is capable of chasing down all issues, and more examples of racism and ethnicism in the highest ranks of our government is also an issue - though perhaps not to you, given your easy use of "guido."

Further, they also want to paint Trump as being racist for using an accurate description in spite of having used it over and over, again and again themselves. Here is a link to a video of them calling it the Chinese coronavirus and Wuhan virus dozens of times until they figured that they could weaponize it and hypocritically use it to attack Trump.

And let's not forget, these are the "racist" terms used by a number of Asian news services as well.

Finally, I explained my use of Guido -- I meant Fredo but you have chosen to ignore that and falsely claimed that I said "a guido" rather than "Guido" -- which is still a common name given to Italians by their parents (who I presume you think are bigots because of it ).

Oh, and as an aside, apparently a hyper-woke channel like MTV, in promoting the show Jersey Shore, described their cast as being "guidos" and "guidettes" -- terms that the cast also often used in anything but a derogatory manner. Seems it is primarily a problem for those desperately searching for something to be offended over.

Trump knows this kind of language appeals to his base, and gets many on the left's knickers in a knot. He's a troll and he's trolling the press, liberals, and anyone who doesn't agree with him. It's not more complicated than that. There is no reason not to use a perfectly neutral name for the virus, like it's actual name - but Trump likes to sow division. He's very good at it. And he's being successful at it once again.

It could also be that also aware that the MSM has been trying to ignore the culpability of the Chinese government for this, with some even busily trying to shift the blame onto him and the U.S. (The New York Times even gave credence to the Chicom claim that the virus originated in the U.S. by labelling it "a theory") and wants to hold their feet to the fire.

Yeah - and I do hope they keep highlighting this kind of stuff each and every time it happens. And I hope Trump keeps doing it. It continually reinforces what kind of man he is, and keeps the left outraged that we have this kind of man in the oval office.

Remember that this is a new virus, no reason to be suspicious until the numbers tick up to the point that you see the epidemic, by which time, at least two months after the first case, it has escaped into the global population. In general, China has done an amazing job in damping it down. As of now, they are the world experts in the containment and treatment of the disease.

And I might point out, the OP of this thread asked about travel restrictions on 25 Feb. Trump made the case that clamping down into a quarantine mode was not necessary.

Moreover, in any discussion of Trump and coronavirus we should also include Executive Order 13887 signed by Trump back in September of last year. Trying to get ahead of the curve wrt to anything requiring a vaccine to help fight it.

The big problem was that the Chicoms were lying through their teeth about virtually everything including the severity of it. This caused everyone to underestimate what we were facing.

And it is simply a fact that the term "china virus" is part of an effort to cast blame on China itself for the existence of this virus. And it is a fact that doing that increases hatred towards a race of people, and that doing so can contribute to the uptick in hateful actions against asians that we are seeing.

Do you support violence against or hatred of Chinese nationals because this virus originates in China? Do you want to be part of actions that will contribute to such violence?

Jim, the hate for China is not for the Chinese people generally. In that post I was specifically speaking to the actions of the government, my OP made that clear. And yes I hate that godless totalitarian regime.
