So the rest of us are just waiting for the numbers to start rising again. It seems to me to be more or less inevitable. We now have far more people dead due to this virus than we had American soldiers die in Vietnam, and we are likely to double the Vietnam number, and the collective response of the country is a large yawn coupled with a denial of the basic facts. We're on to the next news story, and "Obamagate" is more interesting.
I am truly tired of living here.

Lower... and assuming you are in good health. The numbers are not just about age - they are also about health. So they differ by age, income class, race, and several other demographics. And across the board they are still above the comparable numbers for the flu. Further, the more the virus spreads, the more these vulnerable groups are at risk.
The science is actually fairly clear - and the results of premature "opening" will be inevitable. But I'm sure no one will be convinced until it happens - and then when it happens, something else will be to blame. The ultimate weakness of violence is that it is a descending spiral begetting the very thing it seeks to destroy...returning violence for violence multiplies violence, adding deeper darkness to a night already devoid of stars. Nor are we given any expectation that governors will give up their dictatorships any time soon. Nothing here is recognizable as a free society anymore.
Response from the boys of WWII: We understand. We'll do it!
To the modern people of the U.S.: We need you to stay home as much as you can, wear masks if you need to go out, and practice social distancing.

You can try to make another analogy. Make it inspirational next time.Last edited by mikewhitney; 05-17-2020, 08:00 PM.

Basically the number of cases just is a function of how many people are tested (or are presumed to have it). If a state does more tests, poof! They have more cases.

The data isn't perfect but it's the data we have. Get Trump to test more and we'll have better data :).
