I don't see this helping Trump at all.

I was just reading RT (the state-run news outlet for Russia). Man, they are frothing at the mouth about this - even going so far as saying Obama is the preferable US president because he never attacked Iran and stood down on his "red line" threat against Syria.

But let me guess, if the US and Russia were to suddenly begin fighting each other in the Middle East, liberals will continue to insist it is all a ruse, that Trump is Putin's puppet.

Well, maybe the Russians put Trump up to this, so their people could froth at the mouth! Ever thing of THAT?!?!?!

Trump's "line in the sand" was "don't kill Americans".

People who read zerohedge are the lunatic fringe of the right. What I'm seeing from more mainstream conservatives is that they generally approve of Trump protecting our embassy and the lives of US citizens, but they believe the President needs to be very careful about which advisors he listens to.

                    I hadn't thought of that.

But I suspect that Putin wants to depopulate Russia so he is going to have Trump start a war with him. It's all a sinister plan.

I don't think I care very much what state run media says about US, especially if our interests align so poorly with that country's interests. If Russia really wanted to communicate that message this there are formal diplomatic channels and the UN.

No, I wouldn't call it a ruse. I would call it matters spiraling out of control for both the US and Russia.

The argument is whether we should have been there to begin with (when the Iraq parliament apparently didn't want us there), and then how much information we can trust when US reports about military incursions in the past have generally been unreliable to downright misleading (as we've found out with the recent Afghanistan reports)

But yeah, assuming everything's on the up and up, no one would argue defending our troops there is unjustified.
