    • Sort of waiting anxiously to see what polls say about it. We know what the partisan left and right will think, so the independents will be the pivotal factor.

I'm anxious to hear about the protesters in Iran who have been protesting their government. One of our Iranian missionaries (they're not called that because they're not allowed to be there as missionaries) tells us that many Iranians are praising this action, because it was Soleimani's troops who were violent and murderous against them. She said this may well fuel the opposition to the Iranian theocracy.

True, unfortunately they don't affect US election votes.

Given none of you had ever heard of Soleimani a week ago, it's pretty hilarious how deeply you've drunk from the right-wing media Kool-Aid in the last two days and come to fervently believe he was the Worst Person Ever and America's Greatest Enemy, and how much bile you have towards anyone who dare disagree with your new viewpoint in any way whatsoever.

The man was well liked in Iran. That's simply a fact, regardless of how fervently you've come to hold your latest indoctrinated view.

Or what much of the MSM is calling those who attacked the embassy in Baghdad earlier this week. For the WaPo they were merely "protesters" whereas the New York Times actually called them "mourners."

And now, what is the MSM saying about this guy -- a man who has masterminded multiple attacks on U.S. forces resulting in several hundred deaths. To CBS he was an "inspiring" ... "military genius." CNN compared him to the French WWII hero Charles de Gaulle. And on MSNBC they even condemned the attack on "war heroes" (Solemani and the thugs of Hezbollah, who are considered a terrorist organization since Clinton was president)

Soleimani is being remolded by the MSM into a heroic figure despite butchering his own people and being the mastermind behind killing hundreds of Americans and wounding thousands more.

Christiane Amanpour, CNN's Chief International Anchor and host of CNN International's nightly interview program Amanpouras well as host of Amanpour & Company on PBS praised him as "beloved" and "such a legendary figure" (while disparaging our taking out of bin Laden as insignificant -- a "nothingburger").

He likely killed American Conservatives or their children anyway, so starlight was likely less than please that he died.

                          • He was leading the fight against ISIS. He was at the least the enemy of many of the US's enemies in region.

Here's a chart from when the war was in full swing in that region. Arrows indicate who is fighting who:

                            SyriaChart.jpg

From close inspection you can see there are no arrows from US forces to anything Soleimani was associated with. The US was not fighting his troops. He was not killing US troops. They were both fighting ISIS. Alliances in that region are complex at the best of times, and often do boil down to having a shared enemy, so in that sense it wouldn't necessarily be wrong to call him a US ally.

                            His troops were murdering protestors.
He had command of the forces outside Iran. That was one reason he was so well liked within Iran, because he wasn't part of the regime's internal crackdown on its own people.

Since I followed the war in Iraq Soleimani and his Quds Force were no mystery.

Remember how this latest dust up started:

                                American contractor killed

On Dec. 27, an American contractor was killed and several U.S. military service members were wounded in a 30-plus rocket attack on a military base near Kirkuk, in northern Iraq. The Pentagon withheld the names of the Americans.

The attack was attributed to Kataeb Hezbollah, or Hezbollah Brigades, which the Pentagon said was related to Iran's Quds force, an elite unit of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, and received "lethal aid and other support from Iran."
