BSA failed to protect the youth in the past, but they've taken serious steps to keep current youth safe. They're so strict about the leadership thing, I had to submit to their criminal background check even though I'm a law enforcement officer and have already been through a far more rigorous background check, because they refuse to make any exceptions. Which is good.Last edited by myth; 08-10-2019, 11:30 AM."If you believe, take the first step, it leads to Jesus Christ. If you don't believe, take the first step all the same, for you are bidden to take it. No one wants to know about your faith or unbelief, your orders are to perform the act of obedience on the spot. Then you will find yourself in the situation where faith becomes possible and where faith exists in the true sense of the word." - Dietrich Bonhoeffer, The Cost of Discipleship

"Two deep leadership" or something. Basically you can't have any event without two adults present. You can't ever be alone with a youth or youths (two adults at all times, even if there are multiple youth present). One of the two adults has to be an adult leader (basically, been through background checks and current on their Youth Protection Training Certification). Technically, you're not allowed to even text a youth directly, one on one. You're supposed to make it a group chat and include another adult leader.
