I know there's accountability but that doesn't change the fact that this sort of thing can destroy one's life in the process even if they are exonerated later. One person in the Florida case lost custody of their child and they will never get those years back, to say nothing of all the thousands in legal bills people spent.

Realistically, I know the chances of encountering any such rogue cop are very low.

Other than my manager, I'm the only white guy where I work. It's really interesting just how entrenched the distrust of the police is from what I hear from my small sample size. One of my co-workers said that calling the police would only be justified if you were witnessing a murder, and even then, you would go out in public and use a pay phone.

The problem with that is that there are these false narratives, like the "hands up - don't shoot" crap. My son-in-law is a Lt on our PD, and we had a rash of incidents where blacks who were pulled over for a mere traffic violation would jump out of the car and come almost running at the officer yelling "SHOOT ME, M-F-, just go ahead and SHOOT ME"... and similar*.

This really skews the overall picture -- how can an officer NOT have a 'bad interaction' with somebody who's trying to start a fight over nothing?

What I'm talking about though is if you hear any black person, a CEO, a VIP, a Senator, etc, they'll ALL tell you the same story. Are they all lying? Have they all gotten together and cooked up the same BS story together? Is there any thread of truth in what they are saying?

Again, you're hearing the cases that "make the news". Kinda like you never hear a coworker say, "Hey, I drove in to work this morning and ALL FOUR of my tires stayed inflated!"
