  • I wonder what the environmental impact would be if we covered the nation with enough train tracks and rail service to supplant air travel, and just how much of the country would need to be covered with inefficient wind turbines and solar panels to power the trains and electric vehicles we're supposed to be driving in 10-years?

And how many railroad crossings slowing traffic and hitting impatient drivers?

people like AOC live in cities where you have subways and trains and buses and it is actually hard to get around with a car. They think the entire country is like that and don't have a clue about the logistics of how people would get around elsewhere without cars. Maybe they can bring back horses? Oh wait, methane farts. Nope. Not green enough.

Forget about methane farts the world of horse and buggy times had streets befouled with equine poop.

When a better technology comes along and is embraced, the changeover happens pretty quick. The change from horses to automobiles seemed to happen in a decade or two once the car was able to be mass produced at a reasonable cost. There was no need to legislate getting rid of horses to clean up the streets. No "We are going to take your horses away and you have to buy a car" before they were even able to produce them in a cost effective manner.

The same will happen with electric cars. When they are cheap enough and efficient enough, people will buy them, and infrastructure to support them will pop up. There is no reason to force the issue as though the sky was falling. The world is getting "greener" but it will do so because it is profitable and the technology works, not because some idiot politicians say it has to happen in 10 years and try to force it with laws.

Still very busy with the job, but here's how much of the US you'd have to cover to cover all of your power requirements. All the batteries needed to store the energy to make the power delivery constant would be fitted within a single pixel of that image.

Its a small corner of Arizona or Texas.

                      Gotta go.

                            • One estimate I read suggested that we would need as many as 4-million turbines to meet the current power needs of the US. That's a lot of freakin' turbines!
