    • In other news, BuzzFeed is preparing to lay off 15% of its staff due to financial pressure.

I guess that's what they get for having the unshakable reputation as a source of fake news.

When you quote right wing conspiracy laden sources, you may as well be quoting MUFON. If it can't pass muster even on FOX, it belongs in file 13.

Somebody else who obviously didn't bother to read the sources that contain links to numerous articles from a wide variety of sources, including several that could be characterized as *gasp* liberal!

You are correct. My comment was a general comment about breitbart or other sources often used to justify the current administration's behavior. Even a broken watch is right twice a day. But we don't normally go to the broken watch first, and when it's right at the time we look at it, it's more a novelty than anything useful.

Help me out here: is this "poisoning the well", or the genetic fallacy? Maybe a combination of the two?

Brietbart is what breitbart is. And a legitimate source of news and opinion are not what it is. You can pretend saying that amounts to some sort of logical fallacy, but you would be wrong.

                      • "fake news" is a mantra invented by those interested in propagating falsehood to deter their support from listening to voices other than their own. No-one should be using that term, though unfortunately some accused of "fake news" are trying to use it against the originators of the term, which further confuses the issue. Anyone that wants to be taken seriously should avoid the term like the plague. It is the mantra of fascists and dictators and enemies of the concept of a free press.

An interesting observation when you consider that it was liberals who coined the term and are actively using it to suppress conservative outlets.

Case in point, Microsoft has developed a "fake news" filter that is installed by default in their web browsers that only allows "approved" sources through. As you astutely put it, they don't want anybody "listening to voices other than their own."
