I'm sure he didn't mean it that way seer. Really. I don't think DeSantis is a racist based on that thing he said. It was however insensitive, and a bit ignorant, so he can be criticised. He should get the slap on the wrist he's getting in the press. That's about it.

But to say that calling a black person 'monkey', is perfectly race neutral is a bit out there. Even in the form of 'monkeying it up'.

It just comes off as ignorant.

I don't think, considering Trump, Fox News and Breitbart, that you guys are in any position to talk about 'cheap points'. At any rate, its not something huge. It won't affect his voter base, but it is something you can legitimately 'boo' at.

For the record, I've never even heard that term, and I lived in the Deep South for quite a while. If I heard someone use it the way he did, I'd know what he meant ("don't mess this up") but I wouldn't automatically think it had racist connotations.

He probably got "throw a monkey wrench in it" and "screw this up" mixed together in his head. My mom used to mix metaphors all the time.

Maybe you can provide a list of words that should be avoided. It is absurd to narrow speech down too far, especially when it is simply being complained about by political opponents intending to stir up trouble.

I think he was trying to avoid one of the words in SNAFU

No it wasn't. Not even close.

He didn't call a black person a monkey. Not even obliquely.

It appears you forgot to give reasons for your claims.

It appears that you're reaching for nits to pick. You want MM to prove negatives, now?

Yeah it was, there's not much doubting it.

I think you're being intentionally obtuse, if you're trying to use that as a defence.

So you are suggesting that it should be impossible or very hard for MM give us reasons to believe what he claims? Why is it so difficult to explain why it is not insensitive and a bit ignorant? I am not saying he could not have reasons. I am only pointing out he does not provide any. There is an important difference between supporting your claims and proving negatives.
