It depends upon what you mean by "weird creepy stuff". If you mean anything that strays beyond intercourse in the missionary position for the sole purpose of procreation then I disagree. Kids should be taught to understand the wide variety of consensual sexual activity in our society and to not judge it on the basis of personal distaste or religious prejudice.

But therein lies the problem, their are religious people, some of who have beliefs concerning sex that, may be, in contradistinction to that which is taught in schools. For instance they may think homosexual activity is a sin and so want to repress it in their children rather than have them be taught that they're perfectly normal. I don't know, its a tough one. Perhaps those parents should be allowed to opt out, which I believe is the case in many states anyway.

Wow. Interesting thread. So now my $0.02, which I just KNOW you have all been waiting for...

When I was a teenager, porn was accessed by talking someone older into buying a copy of Penthouse and hiding it under the mattress or in the neighbor's shed where it might be retrieved later. Today, any child of any age with an ounce of Internet know-how can be on youporn, pornhub, or gaytube in about two femtoseconds. You can try to control it all you want, but they will use someone else's smartphone, or the school's inadequately protected laptop, or the tablet you gave them without realizing the world of harm you were exposing them to, and they will see what you most do not want them to see. You will think they are going to "Angelica's house" and they will go with Angelica and her older brother to see "50 shades" or heaven knows what else. Once they hit middle school, a parent has lost a significant degree of control, unless you chain them up in the basement (which I do not advocate doing).

So what is the alternative? The alternative is for parents to confront, head-on, that our children will know what rimming, 69, and an "eskimo pie" is by the time they are in their early teens. They will hear it from their peers, or they will see it on a site you never imagined they would be on. That is 2018. It is pretty much inevitable. If you think you can dodge it, you're probably kidding yourself. As parents, all we can do is be honest with our kids. Let them know they can talk to us without judgment. Make sure they know what they are likely to encounter, and try to give them some defenses to resist the things most likely to do them harm. Knowing kids, the moment we make something "forbidden" or "verboten," that is where they are going to go. If we demystify it, let them know we know what is going on, and warn them about the dangers, then maybe - just maybe - they might think twice.

But the minute we shut down the conversation, make it "hidden knowledge," or say "I forbid you," we can pretty much assume they will do the opposite. We will end up with the opposite of what we want.

As a parent - I learned that lesson the hard way.
The ultimate weakness of violence is that it is a descending spiral begetting the very thing it seeks to destroy...returning violence for violence multiplies violence, adding deeper darkness to a night already devoid of stars. Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that. Martin Luther King

It doesn't oppose BDSM, it opposes both the unsafe usage of BDSM and the unhealthy relationship portrayed in 50 Shades. There is nothing inherently morally wrong about BDSM.

Isn't child abuse then what you are accusing the schools of.

Schools teaching sex ed doesn't stop parents from instilling their values in their children. Usually that should take place long before kids are in sex ed class so you should have nothing to fear from education.

same with teaching them about sex thanks for making my point.

Bingo, and that is why I don't want people like you ANYWHERE near my kids!

Yet 72 percent want parents to have the right to opt out of sex ed..

It's OK - These guys and their thinking are part of the reason that Christian schools (and homeschooling) are growing exponentially.
