The family (both parents are dead) made him keep the weapon locked up, but he had a key?
Apparently after his mom died he moved in with a friend's family who made him lock up the gun. But I don't think they were making him lock it up to keep it away from him. Probably just to keep it away from any other kids in the house. Most people have a key to their own gun safe.

Did that stop this guy? No. This guy was clearly nuts and everyone said he has been showing signs for a long time. He was even kicked out of the school. Nobody stepped in and did anything. It had nothing to do with gun laws. It had to do with this guy was crazy and needed intervention yet nobody did a damn thing until he went off and shot people.
Gun laws only work on law-abiding sane citizens. That is what liberals fail to ever learn. No gun law will ever stop a criminal or an insane person from getting or using a gun illegally.
I have no idea how this person got a gun, who gave it to him, and why. If we can't control for all the variables, sometimes it makes sense to try and control the supply.

So, you're like that crazy teacher who can't control the classroom, and somebody shoots a spitwad at her, so she makes the whole class stay after school do extra homework. The first to state his case seems right until another comes and cross-examines him.
