Alvin Bragg indicts 7 migrants accused of attacking NYPD officers — only after critics torch DA for no-bail release

Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg (D) announced Thursday new charges against seven illegal immigrants accused of viciously attacking New York Police Department officers last month, the New York Post reported.
On January 27, surveillance footage captured a large group of men outside a migrant shelter kicking and punching two NYPD officers, Blaze News previously reported.
During a Thursday news conference, the notoriously soft-on-crime DA stated that the horrendous crime committed by the mob of migrants “sickened” and “outraged” him. He called the attack “despicable” and “heinous.”
Bragg announced that three of the suspects, including Yoherny Brito, 19, Darwin Andres Gomez-Izquiel, 19, and Yorman Reveron, 24, were charged with two counts of assault in the second degree, which is a class D felony. Another suspect, 19-year-old Kelvin Servita Arocha, was charged with two counts of assault for allegedly kicking equipment belonging to the NYPD. Wilson Juarez, 21, was accused of tampering with physical evidence for allegedly throwing his jacket over one of the aggressors in what appeared to be an attempt to disguise the individual. Juarez was charged with a class E felony.
Brito is the only suspect currently in custody. According to Bragg, three additional suspects remain at large.
The DA was torched by critics after several of the suspects were apprehended and then immediately released from custody without bail. Some of those individuals fled the city and were believed to be headed to California. Several of the illegal migrants were apprehended Monday in Phoenix, Arizona, Blaze News previously reported.
Kenneth Genalo, the director of ICE’s New York field office, slammed New York City’s “sanctuary” policy for hindering the agency’s attempts to detain the suspects.
“We want to help. The problem is, due to city policies and state law, cooperation is no longer afforded between NYPD and ICE,” Genalo explained. “There’s hundreds of people a week that are being arrested throughout the city and we can’t determine which are the most violent.”
Bragg continued to defend his decision to release the suspected violent criminals back onto the streets of New York City. According to the DA, the chaotic surveillance footage made it difficult for investigators to identify and determine who had done what during the assault.
“The only thing worse than failing to bring perpetrators to justice is if we ensnare innocent people in the criminal justice system,” he stated.
New York Republican lawmakers are urging Democratic Governor Kathy Hochul to remove Bragg for putting innocent lives at risk by allowing the suspects to go free. In a Tuesday letter to the governor, lawmakers called Bragg’s handling of the incident “unconscionable” and “the last straw.”
