Biden ends COVID national emergency after Congress acts

The U.S. national emergency to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic ended Monday as President Joe Biden signed a bipartisan congressional resolution to bring it to a close after three years — weeks before it was set to expire alongside a separate public health emergency.

The national emergency allowed the government to take sweeping steps to respond to the virus and support the country's economic, health and welfare systems. Some of the emergency measures have already been successfully wound-down, while others are still being phased out. The public health emergency — it underpins tough immigration restrictions at the U.S.-Mexico border — is set to expire on May 11.

The White House issued a one-line statement Monday saying Biden had signed the measure behind closed doors, after having publicly opposed the resolution though not to the point of issuing a veto. More than 197 Democrats in the House voted against it when the GOP-controlled chamber passed it in February. Last month, as the measure passed the Senate by a 68-23 vote, Biden let lawmakers know he would sign it.

In the end he didn't want his veto overridden.

Given his fragility he has to project strength every opportunity he gets.

I'm always still in trouble again

They already milked this emergency for all they could too. Time to find a new one, or go back to the "world is ending in 10 years if we don't DO something!" Green New Deal.

This was actually a bad move by the Reps. The end of the emergency was already declared by Biden next month. We just had one month to go. Now when the next pandemic crisis hits, the MSM will absolve Biden and blame the house instead.

Come on, they would never blame Joe anyway.

I saw articles pretty critical of Biden not only when he declared it was over, but when he declared he would end the emergency act. Government authoritarianism for covid was pretty sacred to the covid cult.

Speaking of cultists... when can we expect an acknowledgement from you and others that the higher government powers were indeed temporary, as it was always stated they would be, and was not a long-term authoritarian plot to permanently increase government authority, and that you and the others in the covid denial cult were totally 100% wrong in all of your scaremongering and conspiracy theorism?

We all said this was a dry run for future power grabs. A convenient bugaboo. And just like we said, rubes like you not only willingly, but GLEEFULLY gave up your rights. Now they know that you stooges are easily controlled, they can bide their time until the next "emergency" and creep further into your personal life in the name of "safety"...

In some places they are still in effect.

In Californication, for example, state employees still must be vaccinated against COVID-19 or submit to regular testing. The city of Oakland requires proof of vaccination to enter senior adult care facilities and senior centers and requires people age 6 and older to wear masks in city-owned facilities, including libraries, senior centers and recreation centers (wear your mask outside on a playground).

In Washington D.C. government employees, contractors and interns must be fully vaccinated and get a booster shot when eligible and face-covering is required in D.C. government buildings (unless you belong to the Biden clan who brazenly ignored that law that old Joe had just signed into effect).

Nearly half of our states still have mask mandates of some type still in effect (the last statewide requirement ended only late last month).

And our right to medical privacy has all been but extinguished when businesses were granted access to them in order to see if everyone was vaccinated. Of course, there has been some attempts to reinstate them but that's mostly for schools keeping things secret from the parents.

We're in the 4th month of 2023. I've said before, if we come out of '23 with no pandemic "crisis," I'll be the first to admit I was wrong. I'm confident, unfortunately, that even if we don't have another pandemic scare in '23, we'll all be occupied with some other global crisis with an equal amount of government control.

If I'm right and there is another pandemic, I'm definitely going to rub that egg in your face myself.

Well they did try to start a Monkeypox scare, but people weren't buying it.

In little over a week we saw conservative Christians being blamed for the Nashville shooting and the murderer turned into a victim/martyr and Trump being blamed for the Biden-run colossal series of FUBARs that was the Afghan bugout (all while old Joe declares it an "outstanding success" and "flawless" -- yet still Trump's fault ).

Obviously they no longer even bother looking for excuses to shift the blame and responsibility from where it belongs.

Didn't help that the MSM couldn't bring themselves to report on how it was spread and who was getting (and spreading) it.

There are currently three potential candidates under the radar so far: some sort of weird fungus spreading here in the states; an ebola-like virus spreading in Africa; and the bird flu. Personally, I think the latter is going to be next big one.
