Tennessee Republicans expel Democratic lawmaker for protesting on House floor

The Tennessee Republican-led state House voted on Thursday to expel at least one of three lawmakers who protested on the House floor for stronger gun control laws following the Nashville mass school shooting.

The House voted to expel Democratic state Rep. Justin Jones, 72-25, after nearly six and a half hours of debates and video evidence showing him and two other lawmakers protesting on the floor. Democratic State Reps. Gloria Johnson and Justin Pearson will undergo votes as well.

Look, if they can be standing outside a police station that rioters blocked off the exits of, with the full intent of burning those inside to death,^[1] that was now engulfed in flames and declare it was a "peaceful protest" any and every "protest" that the left has is by definition "peaceful" no matter who gets hurt or killed.

Looks like 2 of the 3 got expelled. The one who didn't was one that it sounds like stood with them but wasn't speaking from what I can tell.

Of course the news items I've seen and heard so far have been throwing a hissy that the white Democrat wasn't expelled but the two black ones were.

My understanding is that no one was injured, no property was damaged, no one was arrested, and no one is being charged.

Kinda sounds like a non-violent protest exercising constitutionally protected free speech. If you want to believe that's an insurrection equivalent to Jan 6, I guess you've got a particularly vivid, possibly hallucinogenic, imagination.

The complaint about the 2 members who are being expelled appears to be... that they were talking with a bullhorn. Literally speech.

I guess you can support the fascists expelling them for a free speech non-violent protest if you like. Seems like they're on their way to becoming local heroes who will be easily reelected in the resultant by-election and thus reinstated in their positions.

It is an interesting window on the current unbalanced psyche of US conservatives how quickly they try and now use the word "insurrection" to try to convince themselves that constitutionally protected non-violent protests by leftist activists are morally comparable to the lethal violence, property damage, and attempted coup that their own side did on Jan 6th. The repressed guilt and projection is palpable.

I'm unsure which of the 3 arsons of police stations that took place during the protests you're referring to, but I note in that at least one of them a far right extremist was the offender, who was attempting to escalate the protests to violence in order to push the country towards civil war.

I'm referring to the one that the reporter was standing in front of. The building engulfed in flames that the rioters barricaded those inside in order to trap them in a burning building so they could be burned alive. The one that I showed in the GIF.

Except here's the thing. Jan 6th got called an insurrection because the rioters tried to disrupt government proceedings. Otherwise it would have just been a riot.

Well, these folks here including the expelled ones who went out of decorum to interrupt proceedings, did the same. That no one got hurt is luck and has bothing to do with the label of insurrection, etc.. But as usual, the left wants to ss out words like that but cant takebit when theyre tossed right back.
