Fun historical fact... at the time of America's founding, Britain was already well on the road to democracy and had stripped much of the power away from the monarch and given it to parliament, but it was the British parliament who was being the most oppressive towards the American colonies whereas the British king was being largely quite nice towards the colonies. So this lead to some of the US founding fathers being quite peeved that it was the parliament and not the king who had most of the power in Britain, so when they drafted the US political system they created an elected-monarch (a "President") who they gave massive amounts of political power to (levels that the British kings of the time could have only dreamed of having). Since that time Britain has continued to strip power from its monarchy and give it to the parliament, while the US Presidents have gradually managed to consolidate more and more power for themselves and pulled it out of the hands of congress (e.g. they now do wars without congressional approval).
My country still nominally has the British Queen as our figurehead. A few people have talked about us becoming a 'republic', but frankly what's the point? It would cost a lot of money to do so, because currently we get the queen for free, and we'd have to replace her with some sort of nominal President or something and fund the President if we became a republic. And I guess technically if our democratic government absolutely collapsed in some sort of chaotic coup, it's good to have a foreign neutral party like the Queen who technically has on paper the power to step in and say "ahem, I declare there will be a new democratic election on this date" (though of course whether anyone would listen if things had gotten that bad is another matter)."I hate him passionately", he's "a demonic force" - Tucker Carlson, in private, on Donald Trump

I donated a couple of hundred dollars to my favorite political party here to help them with their campaign in this year's election, and they emailed me back saying thank you and that they'd managed to raise $100,000 in total for this year's election campaign. That'll buy them plenty of billboards and leaflets. But obviously it won't buy them a multi-month TV advertising barrage. (Although it's worth noting that that is the 3rd biggest of our 7 parties that typically win seats, the two biggest parties typically have budgets around the 1-3 million dollar mark)"I hate him passionately", he's "a demonic force" - Tucker Carlson, in private, on Donald Trump

We point out that you've a monarchy and your rejoinder is "Well, she doesn't do anything."
The think the Founding Fathers decided that if you guys want to live out some Dungeons & Dragons fantasy you could do it on your own dime.Actually YOU put Trump in the White House. He wouldn't have gotten 1% of the vote if it wasn't for the widespread spiritual and cultural devastation caused by progressive policies. There's no "this country" left with your immigration policies, your "allies" are worthless and even more suicidal than you are and democracy is a sick joke that I hope nobody ever thinks about repeating when the current order collapses. - Darth_Executor striking a conciliatory note in Civics 101

Come to think of it - the queen may have given up the title of empress, but the term would be more applicable given the way things actually work.1Cor 15:34 Come to your senses as you ought and stop sinning; for I say to your shame, there are some who know not God.
