Probably high internet usage is the mediating effect in all the OP findings. Social media is having an infamously harsh effect on teenage girls in particular.

Conservative yokels in their own bubbles probably aren't using the internet much.

The differences in social media usage aren't that vast. Though it could be more the type of content they selectively view.

A quick google finds me a study showing the mediating factor is actually social status. People who feel higher up the society hierarchy, are more likely to be conservative and more likely to report good life satisfaction. The moment that variable is controlled for, the liberal/conservative effect goes away.

Obviously you don't know any conservatives. Every conservative family I know (and that is a ton) has the internet, but like with my grandchildren their use of it is limited - in our case to one hour or less a day and is supervised (in that it is in a public area). And no social media. This seems to be a very good thing for their mental health and happiness. ,
