I used to have a trans who worked in the office next to me, and in my state he was allowed to the bathroom of his choice, but he never pushed it because it made the ladies uncomfortable. That was quite gracious of him. BTW - didn't you recently come out as a girl pirate?

Unisex toilets and bathrooms are reasonably common here. I don't really understand what all the fuss is about. Let people go to the bathroom. The US conservatives getting triggered and fake outraged by the idea of people going to the bathroom need to take a chill pill.

It's depressing / amusing / frustrating / sad as a non-American observer to see Americans arguing endlessly over things that are long-solved problems in the rest of the Western world. You guys go nuts over bathroom usage when the rest of us simply have unisex bathrooms. You guys go nuts over healthcare when the rest of us simply have 'free' government provided healthcare. You guys go nuts over gun massacres when the rest of us simply have gun control laws. I can sympathize with Leonhard's pain on seeing you guys missing the obvious solution on this issue like on the others.

I've seen them in Germany, but they're usually like off the Autobahn, Rest Stop places. Every other bathroom I've seen in Germany had separate male and female lavatories. I'm sure there are exceptions to the rule (as there are in the States), but it's far from common.

What I found "depressing / amusing / frustrating / sad" about his rant is that Americans don't neatly fit into the molds that he'd like them to. I'm a Christian, but aside from silliness like same sex restrooms, I'm also for universal healthcare and stricter gun control measures.
