An impeachment would probably make things worse for liberals, as Pence would have no problem being able to work with the Republican Congress to push through legislation without running into all the snags Trump has hit so far (i.e. poor implementation of the travel ban through not working with other agencies, frequent self-inflicted scandals).

Even with that in mind, I would much rather have Pence as a president as I have a lot of respect for the man.
