True, but I think it is largely under attack because it is perceived as one or at the very least because Christians support it.

Honestly? I think it's probably more an argument that's arisen from self rationalization.

Women's lib, contraception, and women's rights, have lead to more divorces. The situation in certain communities has lead to an abundance of single parents. If you claim that the outcome is bad, then you risk tarnishing the policies that lead to that, or the communities that have that. So, instead, instead of doing that, you rationalize. You claim that instead of single parentage being "bad", that it's the nuclear family that's "bad." You spout that off enough, and it becomes an entrenched belief instead of a rationalization.

It's the same way that suddenly the long-agreed upon badness of 'court packing' has suddenly become a "good thing" about 'Court Reformation'.

Folks go to Christian bakers, florists, photographers... to force them to participate in a gay wedding that they don't approve of. They don't seek out orthodox Jews or Muslims to do so.

Folks go into a Church to disrupt services or even to have sex. I can't recall them ever doing so in a synagogue or mosque.

Here, in the west, Christianity is seen as the symbol for the thing these sort of people wish to tear down which is why they go after it and not other religions who also oppose the same things.
