Unlike the general use sarcasm tag, mine is not jocular! Consider it more mordant.

I don't use the sarcasm tag myself - one of the reasons (and only one of the reasons) being the same that H_A mentioned.

When I use sarcasm I go straight for the jocular.

              I also like puns.

It's been a couple decades since I was really into WWIi history, but IIRC the offer was indeed conditional though mainly just on the condition that their emperor would be able to continue to be their leader, which the allies did not want. AFAIK it was a genuine offer.

All that was needed was something like: "XXX (city name) is about to be the focus of a bombing campaign of complete obliteration. You must evacuate immediately." The city needed to be specifically named so the residents would know it isn't a generic propaganda leaflet.
Indeed it was. In fact that bureaucracy is the reason it appears to have never actually got dropped (until after Nagasaki) - they kept editing and adding info to various drafts.

I'll have to remember this when I talk about how bureaucracy kills people.

                          CORRECTION....

Nikole Hannah-Jones calls children's classroom exercises in privilege-checking 'good-faith efforts'

Teachers are "struggling" with ways to teach about racism and slavery, Hannah-Jones said, adding that for every teacher conducting a white privilege exercise, there might be an untold report of a teacher "doing a mock slave auction in their classroom."

At high school level racial equality should be addressed in the curriculum, and some of what Hannah-Jones says does make sense: it is an issue that hasn't been taught to teachers, who therefore have little to fall back on when it comes to addressing the issue. None of that justifies teaching even a hint of superiority or inferiority on the basis of race.

Maybe. The more I look at it, the more it looks like a "you've already seen what we can do, there is more of the same on the way" kind of missive. The kind of message that would be appropriate AFTER a demonstration of power.

We need to have a national dialogue on race but every single time someone starts it turns into a haranguing lecture from those on the left with whites literally being told to shut up (unless they're on the left). So much for dialogue, and we return to our respective corners even angrier.
